June 2020 Newsletter

News from the last meeting

Unfortunately, we have not been able to meet in person since March because of COVID-19 restrictions, however, we have implemented a virtual meeting which occurs every two weeks. We started slow with just a few members to test it out and we have been expanding it to additional members as it seems to be working well. If you want to join, please contact me and I can forward you the information to connect to our virtual platform. You can join by phone, but the best way is to connect either with a laptop or with a computer with webcam and headphones. One of the perks of this formula is that we have been able to interact with modellers from Vancouver island, Alberta and even Washington’s state.

The club’s official life has been in standby mode for the time being and the club executive office remains in place except for Gerry B who confirmed his stepping down from the vice president position. We have made the decision to cancel our 2020 show which was originally rescheduled for September 2020. The forecast is not looking good for gatherings of around 100 persons like we expect, and it seems to be the logical move. All vendors who purchased tables will be reimbursed. They just need to contact me, Gerry Bamforth or the Club treasurer Doug Rathie with their mailing info.

We will see what happens in 2021 before we confirm if there will be a show. It will depend on what happens with a possible second wave of COVID-19 this winter along with the usual flu. More challenging times to come…

On a positive note, a lot of us have found more time to work on our stash and there has been some progress to report.

What’s on the bench?

Here a few pictures of the work in progress and recently completed models from Gene:

Brian has been working on a Tamiya Jaguar XJ220:

And a couple of models I completed, starting with a Revell Shelby GT 350 Hertz. Built box stock except for AMT tampoo printed tires and stripes painted rather than using kit decals. I also added the hood pins and used Molotov chrome pen for all chrome trim. Pretty happy with the result except for the Gravity Color Metallic Black which has metallic particles way too big for 1/24 scale.

And a Tamiya Mazda Miata with home made square pop up headlights, fender flares and duck tail spoiler made from Tamiya 2 part putty, front spoiler from Mazda RX7. Interior color is custom made mixing yellow and tan. Black carpet made of black embossing powder.

What are you working on?
